{"id":3556,"date":"2022-03-16T21:33:13","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T21:33:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/graperesearch.org\/staging\/?page_id=3556"},"modified":"2022-07-28T17:35:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-28T17:35:17","slug":"ngra-fellowship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/graperesearch.org\/staging\/research\/ngra-fellowship\/","title":{"rendered":"NGRA Fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Launched Spring 2022: The NGRA Fellowship! <\/strong>Designed to further the work of aspiring Ph.D. students in grape-related science supporting the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/graperesearch.org\/staging\/research\/\">NGRA research priorities<\/a>,<\/strong> the NGRA Fellowship is a competitive award of $30,000 per year for three years, conferred on one student in 2022. In addition to the monetary contribution for student tuition and\/or fees, the award includes mentorship, field tours and networking with our Board of Directors throughout the three-year term. It is our hope that, by providing support in the early stages of a promising grape scientist\u2019s career, we\u2019ll spark a relationship that will last a lifetime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Important dates<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Applications were due by 5 p.m. Pacific Time, Friday, June 3, 2022<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Winner notified\/announced in July 2022<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Format<br \/>\n<\/strong>The NGRA Fellowship\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Is a competitive award, with applications solicited nationally<\/li>\n<li>Requires an interview\/presentation\/pitch (most likely via Zoom) for up to three selected finalists<\/li>\n<li>Will be awarded to one Ph.D. student in 2022 (See selection criteria below.)<\/li>\n<li>Includes a monetary award of $30,000 per year for three years\n<ul>\n<li>Payable to the student\u2019s academic institution on the quarter or semester system, as appropriate\n<ul>\n<li>Institution to waive overhead for fellowship award<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Includes an assigned NGRA-member industry mentor\n<ul>\n<li>In addition, NGRA President serves as liaison and primary point of contact<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Will provide at least one day of field visits per year in at least one grape sector\n<ul>\n<li>Ideally, timed in conjunction with an NGRA Board meeting, which student will attend<\/li>\n<li>Travel\/expenses for this activity will be reimbursed (not taken from fellowship), if\/as travel is required<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application and selection criteria<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong><em>Student requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enrollment at an accredited college or university, pursuing a Ph.D. in viticulture or related field\n<ul>\n<li>By June 2022: Completion of a master\u2019s degree and acceptance in a Ph.D. program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Grape-related research project identified and defined (See research requirements below)<\/li>\n<li>Complete application packet, including:\n<ul>\n<li>Completed application<\/li>\n<li>Letter of application, including intention to pursue a career in grape research, whether in industry or academia<\/li>\n<li>One page overview of research to be pursued (See research requirements below)<\/li>\n<li>Letter of recommendation from Ph.D. faculty advisor<\/li>\n<li>Letter of acceptance into your Ph.D. program<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>U.S. residency or study visa<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated leadership in campus or community groups a plus<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrable presentation skills a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Research requirements<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alignment with at least one <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/graperesearch.org\/staging\/research\/\">NGRA research priority<\/a><\/strong>, with applicability to at least three of the four grape sectors (wine, juice, raisin and table grapes)<\/li>\n<li>At least one achievable measurable research outcome by the end of the three-year fellowship term<\/li>\n<li>Alignment with a new or existing NGRA-initiated project a plus<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Launched Spring 2022: The NGRA Fellowship!
